Kingsford pupil Anisa C. (Year 10) will play the flute in the London Symphony Orchestra (LSO) Discovery Concert, streaming live on YouTube on Sunday 24th November, at 7.30 p.m. Anisa was selected for the prestigious LSO East London Academy, where exceptional young musicians develop their skills alongside world-renowned LSO musicians. After months of coaching and rehearsals, Anisa’s hard work has led her to this incredible milestone in her musical journey.
Anisa has been playing the flute for six years. Since discovering her passion in primary school, she has been pursuing it with great determination ever since. Alongside her music education at Kingsford, she has been active in local clubs like Newham Music and has performed with orchestras such as the National Youth Orchestra and the London Philharmonic Youth Orchestra.
Anisa shared her excitement and some apprehension about the upcoming performance, eager to give her best. She expressed gratitude for the transformative experience in the LSO Academy, inspired by the diverse exchange of ideas with other young musicians and the guidance from acclaimed and inspirational LSO mentors. Anisa has also benefited greatly from her music education at Kingsford, where she said that all pupils, regardless of experience, are encouraged to explore their musical potential and support each other. Anisa expressed heartfelt thanks to Mr Bennett, her music teacher, for his unwavering support in her journey, from career advice to introducing and supporting her with new musical opportunities.
One of Anisa’s biggest dreams is to perform in the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, as she has heard from her mentors in the LSO programme about their wonderful experiences there. She feels lucky to have received the best quality Mandarin education at Kingsford, which she believes will help her pursue this dream.
Mr Bennett described Anisa as an outstanding pupil and a proud ambassador for Kingsford Community School. He praised her as one of Newham’s most talented young flautists, a role model for her peers, and a pupil committed to learning and growth. Anisa’s dedication to independent practice and her leadership in both school and community-based events reflect her ambition and talent. She regularly performs in school assemblies and even gives one-to-one flute lessons to her peers after school, sharing her skills and encouraging others to develop their talents.
Anisa is committed to pursuing a professional music career, inspired by world-famous flautist Jasmine Choi—not only for Choi’s “beautifully expressive and emotive” flute playing style (which Anisa describes with enthusiasm) but also for her role as a cultural ambassador. Anisa aspires to become a successful solo flautist while also making music accessible and inspiring to others. With her passion, dedication, and the support of Kingsford, Anisa aims to attend prestigious music schools and perform in renowned orchestras. Anisa is a perfect representation of Kingsford’s core values—Aspire, Succeed, Be Excellent—and sets a remarkable example for others to follow. We are incredibly proud of her and confident that she will have a bright, successful future.
