Kingsford's Nazmia is UK-wide runner-up in prestigious Anthea Bell Translator Prize

We are enormously proud of our outgoing Head Girl Nazmia, who has been announced as the area winner, and UK wide runner-up of the prestigious Anthea Bell Prize for Young Translators in the demanding Level 3 Mandarin category.

Pictured here with the Minister Counsellor for Education Affairs, Ms Zhang Jin, Nazmia has shone brightly throughout her time at Kingsford, taking a wide range of accolades and international experiences with her. As a young leader, Nazmia has made a significant contribution to improving the opportunities available to young people in Newham by contributing to the development of the Newham Young People's Charter. As she awaits the results of her GCSE examinations and prepares for the brilliant future awaiting her, this fantastic result is the perfect way to celebrate her contributions and all she has achieved throughout her time with us.

The Anthea Bell Young Translator's Prize, judged by a team of undergraduates and professional translators, is inspired by the life and work of the great literary translator Anthea Bell and aims to promote language learning across the UK and to inspire creativity in the classroom. It is run by the Queen’s College Translation Exchange (QTE), an outreach centre based at The Queen’s College, University of Oxford.  More than 15,000 pupils across the country entered this year, and the standard of entries was particularly high. The Mandarin category is notoriously challenging, and Nazmia has impressed the panel with her outstanding entry.

We can't wait to hear about Nazmia's next steps and the mark she is going to make on our world!
