Kingsford Community School celebrates outstanding GCSE results and fully funded top scholarships for its pupils

Kingsford’s Class of 2022 have every reason to celebrate as their hard work, resilience and determination throughout the pandemic have paid rich dividends with some excellent GCSE results. Despite results falling on a national level, Kingsford pupils have performed exceptionally well, with 86% of pupils achieving 9-4 scores in Maths, and 82.5% in English. We were delighted to welcome Newham Council’s Cabinet Member for Education, Cllr Joshua Garfield, who came to congratulate our pupils on these excellent achievements.

Special recognition must go to Benjamin B, who achieved 8 and 9 scores across the board (five 9s and six 8s), and to other top attaining pupils with high GCSE grade scores (7 and above), including Awadh, Manar, Kai, Albi, Oscar, Kooseheegan, Benjamin, Wen, Muyiwa, Kiran and Jordan. All Kingsford pupils must be commended for securing such excellent achievements, as must the talented body of staff that supported and encouraged them throughout their Kingsford journey.

“I am so delighted with these results; they couldn’t be better. I am so grateful to all the teachers who helped me at Kingsford and taught me to aim high and be the best I can be,” said Benjamin.

The cohort’s top performers included participants in the school’s sixth-form scholarship programme, which identifies the school’s most talented young people from disadvantaged backgrounds and prepares them to apply for fully funded bursaries at the country’s most prestigious independent schools.

Wen J, who secured an impressive set of 9, 8 and 7 grades, now takes up a scholarship at the prestigious Wellington College in Berkshire. The public school has previously won accolades such as “the most forward-thinking school in the UK”, and the “Best Senior School in Britain.”

Twins Awadh (eight GCSEs at grade 9) and Manar (six GCSEs at grade 9) joined Kingsford from Drew Primary and now prepare to take up their places at University College School in Hampstead. University College is a member of the Eton Group of twelve independent schools, well known for its established bursary programme and its international outreach work.

Originally from North Beckton Primary School, Manahil , who was the school’s top scoring pupil for progress, will go to Leighton Park, a top boarding school in Reading, and Jordan (three grade 9s and six grade 8s) will join Kingswood School in Bath.

“I am so happy, I cannot thank Kingsford enough for what they have done for my children. The school has guided them through this whole period and pushed them to succeed and secure the best opportunities”, says mother of future University School Hampstead Scholars Awadh and Manar.

Joan Deslandes, Head Teacher, stated “I am so proud of our pupils for securing such excellent results, especially in the face of the adversity and disruption they faced in critical years of their education due to the pandemic. Their achievements are a real credit to their determination and focus. I am delighted to see, once again, that our school’s ethos of Aspiration, Success and Excellence is having a transformative impact on the lives of young people in Newham. Kingsford is supporting pupils to excel, and opening the doors to further education that will prepare them to be successful, global citizens who make a difference. I congratulate every member of our Year 11 cohort and look forward to hearing of their future successes.”
