Year 10 Pre-Public Examinations 25th March - 5th MayÂ
Dear Parent or Carer,
Re: 2025 Year 10 Pre-Public Examinations (PPEs)
I am writing to inform you that the Year 10 Pre-Public Examinations (PPEs) will be taking place from Tuesday 25th March 2025 to Friday 9th May 2025.
These PPEs are an important opportunity for your child to familiarise themselves with the format and content of their GCSE papers, and to become comfortable and confident with the formal examination environment. Additionally, these assessments will provide subject teachers with valuable insights into your child’s current academic performance. It is vital that your child gives 100% effort during the revision period, as these assessments will highlight areas of strength, areas for development and any misconceptions that need addressing in preparation for their final GCSE examinations.
Preparing for the PPEs
To succeed in these assessments, it is essential for your child to prepare in advance and follow a thorough revision plan. The school has provided your child with:
-
A PPE timetable
-
A revision strategies booklet that includes useful tips for studying and exam preparation.
PPE Rules and Regulations
To ensure compliance with examination standards and avoid disqualification, please reinforce the following rules:
-
No mobile phones or prohibited devices are allowed in the exam room.
-
Full school uniform must be worn.
-
Pupils must not be late for their exam; late arrivals will be sent home.
-
Attendance is mandatory for all exams, except in cases of extreme circumstances.
Prohibited Items in the Exam Hall
No digital devices are allowed in the exam hall. This includes, but is not limited to:
-
Mobile phones
-
Earphones (wired or wireless)
-
Smartwatches, Google glasses, or any device capable of external communication
For further details, please refer to the JCQ exam regulations, which can be accessed online via the following link: https://www.jcq.org.uk/exams-office/general-regulations/.
If your child brings these items to school, they must hand them to their form tutor at the start of the day. Items will be returned at the end of the day. Please note that if your child is found in possession of a prohibited item (i.e. an electronic device), whether it is turned on or off, they will be disqualified from that exam, resulting in a grade U.
Essential Items for Exams
Pupils must come prepared with the following items, kept in a clear pencil case:
-
Pens (blue or black ink only)
-
Pencils
-
Highlighters
-
Ruler
-
Eraser
-
Scientific calculator
-
Geometry set
-
A water bottle is also permitted in the exam hall.
Guidelines for Pupils
Your child must:
-
Study the exam timetable carefully
-
Prepare and follow a revision schedule
-
Utilise the revision booklet and materials from their subject teachers
-
Organise topics to be revised systematically
-
Balance revision with adequate rest and leisure time
-
Ensure they maintain a healthy diet and good sleep habits
Guidelines for Parents/Carers
-
As a parent or carer, you can help by:
-
Ensuring all digital devices are removed from your child during exams to safeguard their outcomes
-
Discussing the revision process with your child and agreeing on how you can assist
-
Providing a quiet, well-lit environment for studying, with minimal interruptions
-
Responding positively to requests for help and offering support at agreed-upon times
-
Giving plenty of praise and encouragement
-
Supplying healthy snacks and drinks
-
Encouraging regular breaks during long study periods
-
Promoting morning revision sessions and discouraging studying too late at night
Please ensure that no appointments are scheduled during this period, so your child can attend their exams without disruptions.
