Cultural Day at Institut Français For Year 9 Pupils
On 20th June, our Year 9 French pupils had a fantastic day at the Institut Français in South Kensington, the heart of French culture in the UK. The visit was organised to celebrate 'La Fête de la Musique', an international festival dedicated to the joy of music.
In the morning, the pupils explored the multimedia library, utilising its resources to find information on various French-speaking musicians. They also learned about the development of music in the French-speaking world from the 1950s to the present day. This immersive activity provided a unique insight into the rich musical heritage of French-speaking countries.
In the afternoon, they watched "La Vie en Rose," a film about the famous French singer Edith Piaf. Since its release in 2007, this film has become one of the most celebrated and successful French films.
This trip was an excellent opportunity for the pupils to enhance their language skills beyond the classroom. Learning a language is not just about lessons; it requires a real cultural immersion. Kingsford’s Languages learning area is dedicated to providing culturally enriching experiences through language clubs and experiences like this one.
